Gaining access to 340b pricing and a strong patient referral source through a contract pharmacy relationship with a local health system is a smart thing to do . . . as long as you can comply with the data reporting and inventory management requirements that come along with it.

WHAT IS IT?

The 340b Drug Discount Program is a US federal government program created in 1992 that requires drug manufacturers to provide outpatient drugs to eligible health care organizations and covered entities at significantly reduced prices.  Many 340B covered entities elect to dispense 340B drugs to patients through contract pharmacy services, an arrangement in which the 340B covered entity signs a contract with a pharmacy to provide pharmacy services.

A contract pharmacy relationship with a health system can help home infusion and specialty pharmacies take advantage of 340b pricing as well as solidify a referral relationship with a large health system.  However, this comes with some significant inventory management and data reporting responsibilities.

WHY DO I NEED IT?

Contract pharmacies are required to send data to a 340b aggregator where it is matched up with data sent from the covered entity.  This is a straight forward process for retail pharmacies.  It is not so easy for home infusion and specialty pharmacies since many claims are billed through the major medical benefit rather than the drug benefit.  The definitions and rules are not clearly defined for these niche pharmacy providers.

The data you need to send is in your Mediware software but getting it out accurately could cost you more than the benefit you are receiving.  Using the data grid and automation technologies in CareTend BI, pharmacies who are using CareTend, CPR+, HomeCare 360 and Fastrack can automate the data transfer to the 340b aggregator of their choice.  The set up is simple and the data transfer is automatic and accurate.  Whether you are submitting your data to Macro Helix, PSG, Sentry or any other 340b aggregator, Rock-Pond’s Drug Program Reporting Service for 340b is the answer.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

$3,000 / year or $275 / month.  That’s it.

For an annual fee, Rock-Pond will handle all of the data reporting requirements to your 340b aggregator.  If the requirements change, simply give us a call and we will adjust your data reporting without any additional fees.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?

When you enter into an agreement with a 340b aggregator, they will provide you with the reporting requirements.  You simply need to send us these requirements and communnicate to us how you will be using your Mediware software to capture the data. You will need to identify how you will identify the 340b patients / orders you want to submit to the aggregator and communicate to Rock-Pond how you will handle this using your software.  We will take care of the rest.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

In most cases we can get you a test file within a week and complete the automation of your 340b data reporting within 2 weeks.

The more home infusion and specialty pharmacies we work with, the faster we get.
